(i) sign up
The sign up name can be almost anything you want within reason. This site is after all pg 13 so as much as it can be anything you want we do ask there is some discretion used when thinking up and using a sign up name.
(ii) display name
Change the character name to their first and last name. Middle name isn't needed. ensure all the letters are in lowercase letters.
(iii) application
Applying is really simple as there is only one application form to fill out and its asking for the basic information. When it's finished place done in the subject line with the character name so an admin will know to look and let you know if the character is approved or not. If for some reason there isn't enough time just place wip in the subject line with the character name.
02 ROLE PLAYING
(i) word limit
Being this site is intermediate-advanced rpg and we DON'T have a word count, we do have a word count challenge to the members which is 400+ words per post. It's really not hard to write the 400+ words challenge; allow the character to describe what they say, their thoughts, their feelings, etc. Before you know it, you'll be at 400+ words; successfully achieving our challenge but again it's optional. Please keep in mind if someone gives you a post with 1500 words, do try to give them a lot in return.
(ii) perfects
A long with not being perfect; none of us are but we do ask please use correct grammar and spelling. Even, I make a few errors myself, but there is a spell check, so please use it. It's very hard to read posts that have a lot of grammar and spelling mistakes. Not to mention it is extremely annoying. If you don't have a way to check, then please use this site to correct both; Spell Check Online.
(iii) third person
All posts should be in third person not first or second person. First person is using the words 'I' and 'Me' when not in speech.
Example:
Third person looks nicer and it's also easier to read and follow. So, please ensure your posts are in third person.
Example:
First person:I was walking down the corridors when someone bumped into me and knocked me down.
Third person:Alvin was walking down the corridors when someone bumped into him and knocked him down.
Third person looks nicer and it's also easier to read and follow. So, please ensure your posts are in third person.
03 Sex/Pregnancy, Drugs, and Alcohol
(i) sex
Yes we realize this is essential to create a child however this is not a porn site of any kind so Sexual threads are Not Allowed. Failure to follow; the character will be suspended on the spot from the board and an email sent by the main admin to discuss this rule and the thread that was done. The thread will also be permanently removed! No one cares what people choose to do with their characters Off this board but it’s not accepted on this board. Proboards is PG 13 for a reason; and no one knows the ages of the members on this board. So out of respect to them and the agreement of Proboards; keep it off this site. Please do not ask for secret board; it will be denied. Just have the posts fade to black.
(ii) drugs
Are Not allowed on this site. Cigarettes are fine but Absolutely No types of drugs are allowed on the site. The character will be flagged and denied until it is changed! Any character who brings it in after acceptance will be flagged and the thread will be removed until the issue(s) is resolved by discussing it with the main admin. Sorry, but there are young people on the site and no one would like the site give any sort of impression towards those substances.
(iii) pregnancy
Yes it is acceptable to a point. Things do happen the site isn’t based on anything less or more. we do ask to a minimum and if you choose to have your character pregnant it may be stated but the acts are not allowed to be on the site.
(iv) alcohol
There are by no means any type of support from this site or members of this site to endorse the drinking of alcohol and any activities thereof under the influence of. This is an RPG only. Characters do have the right and permission to mention the act of drinking alcohol; this by no means gives the players the right to act under the influence of alcohol. With that said, the minimum age for character drinking on Rocky Mist is 18.
04 Godmodding, Metagaming and Powerplaying
by Jewelclaw of the RPG-D
by Jewelclaw of the RPG-D
(i) godmodding
Godmodding in its simplest terms is controlling another player's character without their permission. By imposing your will on their character without their permission, you are gaining 'godlike' or 'divine' powers, hence the origin of the term. Godmodding can be as basic stating that a character is holding a drink in their hand at a party, or mentioning a type of clothing a character is wearing. It can also include actions, such as Character A swinging a punch and breaking Character B's nose. In this scenario there was not any opportunity for Character B's player to respond to the action, maybe their character dodged the punch entirely or got a black eye instead, perhaps it hit but not strong enough to actually break their nose. By stating the end result of the action, the player of Character A is removing the ability of Character B's player to contribute to both the scene and the mood of the thread.
Avoiding godmodding is rather simple, the easiest way to do so is to leave an opening for the other player to respond to. For example this Shaking her head, Jane frowned at Steve, clearly disgusted by him. "You've had enough, you drunk," she snapped as she reached out and snatched the glass out of his hand. could easy be changed to this Shaking her head, Jane frowned at Steve, clearly disgusted by him. "You've had enough, you drunk," she snapped as she reached out, intending to snatch the glass out of his hand. Only a few words were changed, yet the second one isn't godmodding because it gives Steve's player the chance to respond and decide what happens next.
The most important thing to keep in mind when trying to avoid godmodding is to give the other player the chance to respond to the action.

(ii) metagaming
The easiest of the three to define, though likely the hardest to avoid is metagaming. This term comes from the Greek word meta meaning 'about' or 'beyond'. Hence to metagame would be playing with knowledge beyond the scope of the present game, plot, or scene. This knowledge can be gained various ways, either through historical research, threads that occur at a time later than the one that is currently being worked on, informational topics posted on the board itself, or chatting with other players about their characters and gaining knowledge about them, as well as other ways.
Unless the board administration keeps every single detail of the plot under wraps and does not let it progress to the next major event until all the past threads are complete so the board can move forward together, all roleplayers are at some point privy to information as the player that realistically their character would not yet know in game. This could be as simple as commenting on a pregnancy that isn't common knowledge/announced to the public yet, or having a character be angry that their partner was having a clandestine affair, all the way to having a character avoid going on a mission that ended in failure despite hopes in the beginning it would be successful.
The most important thing to keep in mind to avoid metagaming is that just because you the player know something, doesn't mean your character will.

(iii) powerplaying
Powerplaying is when a player manipulates their character's abilities, powers or skills so that their character always has an advantage in the situation. This could be as simple as always knowing the best spell, or having a black belt in every type of martial art known to man. Powerplaying is most often confused with godmodding, and while the two are quite close, the difference between them is that godmodding is more controlling the other players character, while powerplaying is focused on your own character and manipulating the scene through them.
Any experienced RPer will tell you that the most believable characters have strengths and weaknesses, and if they don't then they face the dreaded title of Mary/Gary Stu. No character can ever be the fastest/strongest/bravest/smartest/whateverest all the time, and saying they are is powerplaying. This is most often found in battle threads and physical contests when it is often left to the player to determine the effectiveness of attacks and extent of damage given. No one wants to play with a a character that always wins! No matter how awesome your character may be, there will always be one out there that is better.
The most important thing to remember when trying to avoid powerplaying is keeping in mind that no one is immortal, and they all have weaknesses, as well as keeping the bounds of reason in mind.

05 OOC
(i) chatbox
Our general chat is open to anyone. Come jump in, talk and have fun. Feel free to talk, meet, even ask question and leave your concerns and suggestions. We do ask everyone treats everyone with respect and please don't bully anyone. Rocky Mist has an advertising board, so please use it instead of posting your add in the chatbox. It will be deleted. Please be kind to everyone. If you have problems with anyone, please PM an admin about it and we will take care of it. No arguing in the Cbox unless if it's friendly arguing.
(ii) ic-chat box
For character chat only. We do ask that discretion is used when role playing in the ic chat box; again leave the drama between the characters and even then lets keep the bullying to a minimum. Only approved characters can be used in the ic-chat box; so finish the applications and then jump into the ic chat box. Please be kind to everyone. If you have problems with anyone, please PM an admin about it and we will take care of it. No arguing in the Cbox unless if it's friendly character arguing.
There will be no spamming the ICbox and no advertising.
There will be no spamming the ICbox and no advertising.
(iii) ooc boards
(a) No asking people to join your site through PMs, post the ad under the advertisement board and if members of Rocky Mist are interested; they'll click and join. There is an advertisement board for a reason.
(b) If there has been a ruling with the Denial/Acceptance of a character and you disagree with the admin’s ruling then please discuss it with said Admin or contact the Main Admin. If the conflicted cannot be reached by a compromise then forward all pieces of the said conversation to the main Admin. HOWEVER, that is no justification to disrespect ANY of the admins on the site!
(c) The OOC Boards are those boards which you don't actually post anything in character; such as General boards, Site Information, and Personality check just for a few examples.

06 Activity
(i) activity check
With no activity check being done since this site opened, it's been decided to do away with Activity checks all together. Rocky Mist RPG does not have activity checks. It's a site where everyone posts when they feel like. Do bare in mind with that said, that doesn't mean people won't or cant be deleted. As we do ask that people try to post at least 2-3 times a week and if the account has been inactive for two weeks to a month the play by of the character will be released and the character account suspended-until a new play by is either claimed and/or the player contacts the admin to un-suspend the account. We are asking nicely that people participate - after all thats the reason you joined this rp; right?
(ii) deletion of characters
No one likes to sign on and find they can't because the account has been deleted. Since there are no activity checks, accounts will not be deleted due to failure to comply to activity checks. Accounts that have been placed as MIA will be deleted after FOUR months. Those accounts that have been created and left with no kinds of activity, no returns, no signs of activities of any kind after joining and possibly even after creating a character will be deleted after TWO months. There will not be any sort of massive emails or PM's sent out. If the account has been inactive for FOUR months or longer, chances are they will be deleted. Now these checks are random. Everyone has been warned! Those who have an absent thread up or has spoken to the main admin could possibly save their characters. The Deletion of accounts and characters in this matter is due to freeing up the Play By's for those who do wish to join and play the game.
(iii) activity
We all realize the members in Rocky Mist have real lives and at some points that comes first; above and beyond the activities we have on the computer and internet. None the less, We do ask that all members stay active and post on the site at least three times a week. These posts take place as in character posts and not in any of the ooc boards.
07 Character Increase
(i) new characters old members
We do not have a character limit but for starting there are only two characters people can start with. One male and One female. After those two have been created people can post to earn money to buy any further characters from the store. We do ask that you only create the number of characters you feel and believe you can handle. This may change at one point but for the time being; we will accept the characters. We do ask if the numbers of male-female to try and remain as even as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to ask the admins.
08 Graphics
(i) sizes
(a) We do accept graphics on the individual accounts. The icons are 200x240 with a hover image of 200x450. Anything larger there'll be one warning and if nothing is done about it, it will be deleted without any further warning. We usually work on a three day basis.
(b) Signature graphics are 500x300. Nothing larger. We'd rather not have the board stretched and any images that attempt to stretch the board will be re-sized. However, again if that is the case, there will be one warning and if nothing is done about it they will be deleted without any further warning. Again, we work on a three day basis.

(ii) made graphics
(a) If the graphics can't be made by personally, there is a graphic's board here in which can be tried. There are some who can at least re-size the images so you have them up on the character. Some may be able to make some fancy looking graphics for your character. Just put up a post in the graphics board or if someone has a thread there and taking requests put up a post.
(b) Anyone who wants to put up a thread to do graphics, it's perfectly fine and even encouraged. Please don't put anyone's graphics down as they do take time and everyone needs to start somewhere. However, please be sure to post if you're accepted requests or if your not accepting any at that point in time.

However, please be sure to post if you're accepted requests or if your not accepting any at that point in time.
(iii) other sites
There are many sites out there where you can go for graphics. To list a few to check out and try are Caution 2.0, Shadowplay, RC&R, and even Back to Neverland. There are many sites out there to help with graphics or even to give tutorials to make your own. When all else fails, check around on those sites and you should be able to fine other sites to do graphics.
09 Tolerance
(i) harassment
I'm surprised it has come to this; however, here it is. Rocky Mist has a Zero Tolerance to harassment. This is applied to both members and staff alike. This is not only rude and mean, but it's abuse. It's also a crime. Whether it's online or offline Harassment is the same and it will not be tolerated or accepted here. There are no warns given if this is a proven case and the member doing said activity will be removed, deleted and banned from site.
(ii) bullying
This should be common sense not to bully anyone. We do ask people not to bully; to treat everyone with respect and dignity. To treat everyone on the site with respect and to just treat them the same way you'd want to be treated. If there is bullying going on, please contact Kila in regards to the situation and it will be taken care of. First will be a warning the second will be an account disable for 14 days. The third strike the player will be removed from the site.
(iii) respecting admins
This section shouldn't even be in the rules or even listed and yet here it is. After how long, this has now been added to our rules. The admin team on Rocky Mist are to be respected. Yes, we understand that our rulings can seem unfair and members may wish to challenge a ruling. That is perfectly fine to challenge the admins, HOWEVER, there is a fine line from challenging to disrespectful. Do not disrespect the admins please. The admins will hear out the complaint and the opinion's of the member(s) involved at which point a decision will be made. Please respect them. The admins of Rocky Mist will do what they can to be fair to every individual. Bottom line, treat the admins the same way you'd want to be treated. If this can't be followed through, one if not both previous tolerating requests, harassment and bullying, will come into play.
10 Fun
(i) fun
Even though this is at the end of this list, it's the most important rule on this site. Have fun. Be sure to rock this club; go all night and have Fun.
